Allégro - FAQ

  1. How much Allégro Probio must be consumed in order for its effects to be felt?

It is best to eat Allégro Probio every day. A 30 g serving contains one billion good bacteria. Since many bacteria, both good and bad, are eliminated as they make their way toward the intestine during the digestive process, it is essential to consume sufficient quantities of probiotic bacteria in order to derive their effects.

  2. Can I consume too much Allégro Probio?

No. Probiotic bacteria survive only a few days in the intestine. It is therefore essential to consume some every day in order to replenish them and ensure that they continue to help the body strengthen its natural defences. In addition, since Allégro Probio is a light cheese containing only 4% milk fat, even those who are watching their weight can eat it on a regular basis!

  3. Do probiotics change the way cheese tastes?

No. Allégro Probio has the same good taste as regular Allégro 4%.

  4. Can Allégro Probio be used in cooking without losing its properties?

Since heat affects the survival of the probiotic bacteria contained in Allégro Probio (probiotics are affected when the temperature exceeds 42° Celsius), it is preferable to consume this cheese fresh in order to enjoy its benefits. Though it can be used in cheese dishes—since it has the same good taste as regular Allégro—it will lose its probiotic properties when heated.

  5. Are there any contraindications to eating Allégro Probio when using antibiotics or other medications?

None. In fact, given that antibiotics disturb the intestinal flora, the consumption of probiotics prevents bad bacteria from colonizing the digestive system and promotes faster recovery. However, if you have questions about your health, you should first consult your doctor.

  1. Can I eat Allégro Probio cheeses even if I suffer from lactose intolerance?

Allégro cheeses are light, healthy, and natural. All Allégro 4% cheeses are certified to contain less than 0.01% lactose. People with lactose intolerance will therefore have no problem enjoying cheeses in the Allégro 4% family.

  2. I suffer from a specific ailment or disease. Can I eat Allégro cheeses?

Allégro cheeses are light, wholesome, and natural, with several health benefits. However, anyone with health questions or concerns should preferably first consult a doctor.

Thanks to its low fat content and high concentration of protein, Allégro cheese is a healthy food that is ideal for people suffering from high cholesterol levels. The presence of probiotic bacteria has the added benefits of helping to maintain a healthy and balanced intestine, stimulating the immune system to provide greater protection, and even reducing vaginal infection problems.

  1. What is the shelf life of Allégro cheeses?

Allégro cheeses have different shelf life, according to their type. The soft ripened 16% can be kept for 2 ½ months. The 4% Probio and the 7% processed cheese, 4 months. The Allégro sliced can be kept 6 months. And the 4% white, coloured, herbs and spices and Jalapeño can be kept 8 months. Always check the “best before” date on the packaging.

  2. What allergens are contained in Allégro cheeses?

People allergic to milk should not consume Allégro cheeses.

  3. All cheeses in the Allegro family contain 15% or more calcium per portion; is it that important?

According to Health Canada’s regulations, a food is deemed to be a “good source” or to have a “high content” of a specific nutrient if the per cent daily value of that nutrient is at least 15%. Still according to Health Canada, “calcium helps in the development and maintenance of strong bones and healthy teeth.” Moreover, calcium is recognized as playing a vital role in our bodies: it is necessary for proper blood clotting, which is essential for healing; it helps the proper functioning of the nervous system; it normalizes cardiac rhythm by regulating blood pressure; and it plays an active role in muscular contraction and relaxation.
